Today I would like to tell you about one little change I made that increased my productivity tenfold. I made a schedule.
Yep, by simply planning out my day, I started getting a great deal more work done. I wrote about this a bit in my investment article.
If you’re a full-timer like me, then you have a lot of free time on your hands. Your life is your own. That is why I am an entrepreneur. My challenge is that, along with the love of freedom as an entrepreneur, I also have the attention of a balloon artist. Which, as you can guess, is very minimal.
I’ve wasted a lot of time. I used to wake up afternoon every day. I spent ten hours a day watching television. Pretty much, it was the definition of a wasted life.
Sure, I planned to read and market, but I never seemed to have the time. Hmm, what a stupid excuse.
Then I started making a schedule. I made minor changes that created a tremendous response.
First, I started setting the alarm. I’m not too fond of alarm clocks. I find them to be one of the most annoying parts of life, but at least for this season of life, they are a necessity.
Second, I made a daily to-do list. I included time for reading, marketing, play, and eating.
Third, I ordered that list from the alarm went off until that evening. Sometimes I even call it until I want to go to bed.
Fourth, I stuck to the list.
It wasn’t and still isn’t easy, and I am very flexible with my list. I move things around and randomly go to lunch with people all the time. It is not a strict box but a framework to keep me within the bounds I set for life.
A couple of other tips to help you be productive:
- Instead of just a list create action cards. Order them in importance. Enjoy tearing them to shreds when you complete that task.
- Use an egg timer for different projects. If you want to check e-mail set it for five minutes and when it goes off move to your next task.
I hope you find this helpful and that it will increase your productivity and your quality of life.
Twistedly,
